It took this horn player a few minutes to assemble his horn before he started playing it. He had it in a small case, which is next to his feet in the picture. The hat on the right is for collecting donations.

As described in the city guide, the dying Lion of Luzern was "hewn out of national rock in memory of the heroic death of the Swiss mercenaries at the Tuileries in 1792." Mark Twain described the Lion of Luzern as "the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world".
