We thought this article on “Photography Composition Tips” from Unshutter.com was a great re-cap of the composition techniques we’ve been writing about these past few months, including these tips from The American School of Paris and these tips from our friends over at photozone.de.
- Keep it simple. Find the subject and focus on it.
- Get closer. Too many people shoot from too far away.
- Change your perspective. By doing so, you can dramatically alter the mood of the resulting photograph.
- Remember the Rule of Thirds. Yes, imagine those horizontal and vertical lines and use them as a place to put your subject of interest.
- Lines. Good use of lines can help lead your viewers to your focal point and create dimensional interest in your photograph.
We also really liked this quote from Henri Cartier-Bresson that they used to conclude the article: “Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst!” So how do you get over that? Yes, you just keep on taking photographs and make sure you have fun while you’re doing it!
