If you’ve been following along closely at home, you might remember that we already discussed the importance of framing when we looked at the free tutorial series on composition from The American School of Paris a few weeks back. If you missed our blog post on framing, you can find it here.
Today, we’d like to take another look at framing, a critical element of winning photo compositions. This time, we turn to Klaus Schroiff of photozone.de to get his insight on the topic.
Klaus advises us to look at how elements within the landscape can be incorporated into our shots in order to create visual interest. In his first example, he looks at how trees surrounding a mountain range can help frame the mountain as the focal point of the photograph.
Natural breaks in the landscape, such as those in the red rocks of the photograph featured above, can also help provide a frame that will help draw viewers into your picture.
Klaus’ entire four-article series on composing your photos and many other great topics can be found here in the Photobird Learning Center.
